Start at the Root: Scalp Care is Hair Care

I never thought about my scalp...at all.
And if you’ve been focusing on your hair but not your scalp… you’re not alone.
For the first time, I noticed thinning near the crown of my head… and then actual bald spots.
It felt sudden, confusing, and honestly a little scary.
Between hormonal changes, environmental stress, and even an unexpected allergy to my cat, it felt like everything was working against my hair.
I found myself trying to figure out what to do next… fast.
And that’s when I asked myself a simple question:
Who actually has strong, healthy hair and what are they doing differently?
For me, the answer was women in India.

That question led me down a path of studying Ayurvedic hair care… and eventually creating a simple system that helped me rebuild my hair from the root up.
Why Protecting Your Hair Before Washing Matters
Most of us jump straight into washing our hair… but that’s actually where a lot of damage can happen.
When your hair absorbs water, it swells and stretches, and becomes more fragile.
Think breakage, dryness, and frizz.

That’s why I started using a pre-wash hair oil.
If your hair feels dry or fragile after washing, this might be the missing piece.
I’ll roll it on while the coffee is brewing… and leave it on for about 30 minutes.
Sometimes I’ll use a scalp massager to work it in… it honestly feels like a mini reset.
If my scalp feels extra dry, I’ll leave it on overnight instead.
Is My Shampoo Working or Working too Hard?
Once I started oiling my scalp, I had a new question…
I don’t know if my shampoo is doing more harm than good.
My hair wasn’t bouncy or shiny…
but it was still frizzy.
I kept hearing about sulphate-free shampoos…
but I still didn’t know how to choose something better.
That’s when I realized… it was time to make my own.
I needed something gentle.A sulphate-free shampoo that cleans the scalp without stripping away the oils your hair actually needs.
Staying Hydrated is Hair Care

I never put a lot of thought into my hair...
I'm the one who got it cut maybe twice a year.
Now, I can't say the word hair without thinking about my scalp.
I don't garden...but even I know you can't grow anything in dry soil.
After washing, I realized my hair still needed something.
The best part? I can take it with me.
A simple leave-in mist that keeps my hair feeling soft and protected throughout the day… without weighing it down.
These are the three simple things I started doing…
And over time, they made a bigger difference than I expected.
Building a Routine That Works for You
Over time, this is what my routine started to look like:
I use a pre-wash oil 2–3 times a week… more if my hair feels dry
I shampoo based on how my scalp actually feels, not just a schedule
I use a leave-in mist daily to keep my hair hydrated and protected
And I adjust everything depending on what my hair needs
Once I started focusing on my scalp, everything else started to make more sense.
If you’re ready to stop guessing and start supporting your hair in a way that actually makes sense…
I put together a simple guide that walks you through how to follow this routine, step-by-step…
It’s the exact framework I wish I had when I was starting out.
